Area Meeting time

Area 6 of the Montana Association of Conservation Districts had their annual Area meeting yesterday in White Sulphur Springs.  It was a beautiful day, a bit breezy, but not bad.   Districts came together to discuss the business of their area:  proposed by-laws changes for MACD, reports from the various Government organizations including Natural Resource Conservation Service, Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Department of Environmental Quality, Fish Wildlife and Parks, Montana Salinity Control Association and others.  The Galt Ranch provided beef for the mid-day meal, "Wagyu beef". There were only 2 resolutions, Floodplain Resolution and the other on Priority Resource Concerns and how they tie in with NRCS funding to Field Offices.  The first one passed, unfortunately the 2nd one did not.  We will likely be bringing the 2nd one back…

Lake Helena Watershed Festival

The Conservation District was well-represented at Saturday's Lake Helena Watershed Festival at Women's Park in Helena.   Jeff Ryan, Supervisor, had a table showing off his willow soil lifts.          Chris Evans, CD Administrator, ran the Rolling Rivers Trailer for the day. Fortunately the rain overnight and snow in the hills helped clear out the smoke for the day.  It was a cool day, with very clear air and we had a nice turnout for the Festival!

Soil Health Day

Join the Broadwater Conservation District and Lewis & Clark Conservation District for a full-day seminar and tour highlighting Soil Health and Cover Cropping!  Beginning at 8:30 with registration, the morning will be largely informational with a fantastic speaker from NRCS in North Dakota, and a presentation on some cover crops done in Lewis & Clark County by local producer, Tim Dusenberry.  After a pulled pork sandwich lunch, we'll board the bus with tour stops at Bruce Seed Farm, a stop and a Townsend area cover crop and back to the Staubach to look at their operation.
