Channel Migration Zone Mapping Project

In collaboration with the Sun River Watershed Group and with a grant from the DNRC, the Elk Creek Channel Migration Zone Mapping Project is now complete.  The Elk Creek CMZ was phase 2 of the larger Sun River CMZ project.   To view the documents, please contact the conservation district. It's hoped that future projects in the watershed can be prioritized for landowners by utilizing this document.

Do You Follow Stream Gauges?

If you're an irrigator, or recreationist, or just a water measurement geek like me, you might have a half dozen or so stream gauges that you look at on the USGS site, or other water measurement organization's sites. Recently, the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation had a state-wide working group that created a great story map about Montana's Stream Gauges!  To view the new story map, go to the site.

A Day in Augusta

For landowners in the Augusta or Dearborn areas who were affected by the flooding this past week, we want to let you know that we're going to be in Augusta at the Youth Center/Senior Center/ Public Health office on June 29 from 10-2 collecting information on bridge and culvert damage as well as stream damage.  We'll have permit forms--regular and emergency--bridge and culvert installation information, and other information for you.   We're also hoping to have any program information from the Farm Service Agency and information on whether the Conservation District will have funding available to assist with bridge and culvert projects. In addition, we plan to bring water test supplies.  The Conservation District has a reimbursement program and we will reimburse the cost up to $25 of your test kit…

Lewis & Clark County Weed Events-Summer 2018

Every year, the Conservation District partners with the Sun River Watershed Group to help out with their Summer Weed Events.  Invasive species are an on-going battle and the work that the SRWG has done has been amazing! Flood Awareness at EVMS!

[caption id="attachment_1071" align="alignleft" width="300"] The Calm Before the Chaos[/caption] Since the spring of 2008, the Lewis & Clark Conservation District has worked with area agencies to bring Flood Awareness to the East Valley Middle School.  What began with a parent visit during an open house in the fall of 2007, turned into a 9 year commitment to education.
