Lake Helena Watershed Festival

Education, Events
The Conservation District was well-represented at Saturday's Lake Helena Watershed Festival at Women's Park in Helena.   Jeff Ryan, Supervisor, had a table showing off his willow soil lifts.          Chris Evans, CD Administrator, ran the Rolling Rivers Trailer for the day. Fortunately the rain overnight and snow in the hills helped clear out the smoke for the day.  It was a cool day, with very clear air and we had a nice turnout for the Festival!

Have you ever wanted help with a project?

Uncategorized
Lewis and Clark CD's Board of Supervisors is trying a pilot project to help landowners pay for a number of types of projects. The Board allocated $7500 for the year, up to $2500 per project or 50% whichever comes first. Applications are available here. Please note that some activities will require professional design/planning, such as stream work, including bridges/culverts. Any work done in or near a perennial stream will also require a 310 permit from the Conservation District. Approved practices will be reimbursed at 50% of a project bid or $2500, whichever comes first, or using the NRCS 2015 Cost Share list, up to $2500 toward the approved project.

Jeff Ryan-Stream Functional Facelift Guy!

Uncategorized
CD Supervisor, Jeff Ryan, was featured recently in an article in the Helena Independent Record for a willow lift project that he helped to install on Little Prickly Pear Creek. See more about the project here.  Jeff has now assisted with a number of these projects across the state. [caption id="attachment_132" align="alignnone" width="300"] It is estimated that about 80% of the willows that were used have begun to grow. This should give the bank a more permanent stability and should save the grazing and hay ground[/caption] [caption id="attachment_133" align="alignnone" width="300"] Prior to a soil/willow lift project on Little Prickly Pear Creek.[/caption] Another recent project that the Conservation District was involved in was the Prickly Pear project.  That project was a joint project with a lot of partners.  Information on that project…

Training in Kalispell…

Training, Website
Recently I got to spend the day out of the office, going to a training on WordPress in order to re-vamp the District's website.  While I am not a fan of summer, this was a beautiful drive from Helena, over Mac Pass and up the Seeley Swan.  The West side is even drier than the East side this year it appears. I got to see the newest fire area west of Colorado Gulch--still smoking!!!! The CD will soon be branching into a new arena of social networking.  Look for us on Facebook soon!
