2025 Lewis and Clark County Local Work Group Meeting

The 2025 Local Work Group meeting for Lewis and Clark County will take place on Thursday March 27th from noon to 1 pm. We will meet at the USDA Service Center Conference Room, 790 Colleen Street, Helena Montana. In the event of a government shutdown, the meeting will be moved to the DNRC CM Russell Conference Room, 1539 11th Avenue, Helena MT.  The purpose of this meeting is to review any new natural resource concerns in the county, as well as reviewing past and current concerns and priorities, so that the Lewis and Clark Conservation District and the NRCS Field Office can adjust planning for the future. USDA Sets Agricultural Conservation Easement Application Cutoff Date!

While NRCS accepts easement applications on a continuous basis, applications for the next funding consideration must be submitted by February 5, 2021. “Easements are sometimes a perfect fit for a landowner who is looking to protect his or her land from future development or to protect and improve wetlands or provide critical habitat for wildlife,” said Allen Persinger, NRCS assistant state conservationist for easement programs in Montana. As part of a grant from the National Association of Conservation Districts, the Lewis and Clark Conservation District is hiring a full-time temporary position as a Conservation Planner.   While working for the CD, this employee will be expected to: Collaborate with local conservation partners including government agencies, non-profit organizations and private agricultural landowners. Provide outreach and education to local agricultural landowners regarding integrated weed management, grassland enhancement and restoration, riparian grazing, stream corridor health, forestry and financial assistance opportunities. Work cooperatively with personnel at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in the Helena Field Office to develop site-specific conservation plans for agricultural landowners to address complex natural resource issues.
