The regular meeting of the Lewis & Clark Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be January 12, 2017 at 1 p.m.   The meeting will be held at the USDA Service Center Conference Room, 790 Colleen Street, Helena MT 59601.  All meetings of the Conservation District are open to the public.  If you have any questions about the meetings or information, please call the CD office at 406-449-5000 ext. 112. Minutes from the December 2016 meeting Notice/Agenda for January 2017 Meeting Notice for January 2017 special meeting Preceding the regular meeting, the CD will be meeting with NRCS, DNRC and MACD representatives to discuss programs and needs within the county.  That meeting will be at the same location and will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

Small Acreage Landowner Workshop!!!!!

Please plan to join us on Saturday November 5 for our small acreage landowner workshop!  Registration must be done in advance, since we need your property information to print up individual soil maps for you.  Registration is only $10 and is limited to 30 people. Topics will include: 10:00 a.m. Registration   10:15 a.m. Soil Health Test Learn why it is beneficial to test your soil health.  Having this information will help you to better assess what your soils needs are for the best production.   Slake Test This test determines the stability of your soil under various weather conditions.  This is important when determining what kind of crop you want to plant.   Rainfall Simulation See how rainfall absorption is affected by vegetation! 12:30 p.m. Lunch (Provided)     Discussion…

ACEP-WRE Sign up deadline!!!

Natural Resources Conservation Service runs the ACEP (Agricultural Conservation Easement Program).   Landowners in Montana who may be interested in specifically the Wetland Reserve Easement program (WRE) need to be aware that the application deadline for this program is October 21, 2016.  Easements can be another tool that landowners can use to keep their property working for them for the long-term. What is it? The High Tunnel System is a unique conservation practice used to extend growing season, improve plant and soil quality, reduce nutrient & pesticide transportation, improve air quality, and reduce the amount of energy used to produce crops for consumers.  This method also assists with crop production in climates with shorter growing periods.   Why consider this?
