Ice Jams

Flooding

Weather.gov says that Montana has the largest number of ice jams in the contiguous United States. Just a reminder to those living on rivers and streams, that if emergency conditions arise, if life, property, crops or livestock are at imminent risk, work can be done by the landowner to safeguard their property, but an Emergency Notice--preferably with photos of the before and after work--must be submitted to the Conservation District within 15 days of doing the work. Forms can be mailed to Lewis and Clark Conservation District, 790 Colleen Street, Helena MT 59601 or emailed to lccd@mt.net. If you have any questions, call the CD office at 406-389-3884.

2022 Annual Report

Office closures, Planning, Programs

As part of our year-end activities, the Conservation District puts together an annual report of their activities. It can be viewed here. In December, the board reviewed the planning for 2023 with changes to the Strategic Plan for 2022-2026 and the operations plan for 2023. With the loss of a staff member, we hope to be hiring in 2023 at some point, probably closer to spring. In the meantime, our current staff member, Chris Evans, will be taking some annual leave before year-end and will be back January 3rd. The updated planning documents will be posted once they are finalized and approved by the Board.

Meeting with legislators

The Lewis and Clark Conservation District will be meeting with legislators in Lewis and Clark County on Wednesday, November 30th at 5 pm to discuss natural resource concerns in Lewis and Clark Conservation District. The CD office is co-located with the USDA NRCS, FSA and Rural Development offices and the aged building that we're all housed in is undergoing some much needed, long overdue renovations. This week, they are re-flooring and hopefully painting the CD office, so the phones are all unplugged and the internet is down. Therefore, staff are all working off-site. August Regular Board meeting and Lincoln Area Work Group
